The Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2017 Winner’s Exhibition kicks off this week at The Lever Gallery in Dalbeattie. I really wish I could attend, as it would be great to see everybody’s work on display in one room, but alas being down here in Dorset does have its limitations!
It was a great privilege to be selected amongst many other talented photographers and it has definitely spurred me on to enter more competitions and get my work out there. If you happen to be in Scotland and close by to one of the venues listed below, go and take a look, you won’t be disappointed!

For my final year at university I wanted to produce a book to show the project I had spent all year working on, Saving Britain’s Native Squirrel. This book would be filled with my own photography and words, and I wanted the final product to be of a high quality to show the work off at its best. It would also be featuring in two exhibitions, so it was really important for me to make a good impression on the audience.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT COMPANY
After having a problems in the past with other book makers, I was a little apprehensive about which company to try next. Saal Digital had begun to appear on my social media feeds and had glowing reviews from other photographers, so I thought I would give them a try, especially as they were offering product testing!
CREATING THE BOOK
I can thankfully say that I am so happy that I did! The service from beginning to end was flawless and the quality of the photo book is outstanding. I created a 28x28 photo book and added in the optional extras to enhance the quality (padded cover, gloss pages, no barcode, gift box) and it truly made all the difference.
I also chose to design the book using Adobe InDesign and had complete freedom with the layout. The templates were clearly labelled for which book size and page number that I needed, and technical details such bleeds, spine, image resolution, etc. were explained very well.
CONTACTING SAAL DIGITAL
However, the first book that was sent did have some printer ink marks on two of the pages, so I contacted Saal to see what could be done about this. To my surprise they sent me another copy free of charge with no quibbles, and it was delivered in time for the first exhibition.
RECEIVING THE BOOK
When the book was delivered I was eager to open it up and have a thorough look through it. I was so pleased with the quality of the finish and how my images and text appeared in print. The delivery was super quick and it arrived well packaged to my front door. I hugely recommend Saal Digital for their professional approach and high quality products, and would not hesitate to use their service again!

ORBIS Opening Night
Our long awaited graduate exhibition kicked off this week in Bristol’s Paintworks Event Space, and what a great opening night we had! We had lots of lovely feedback about our work and there were plenty of people watching our films and taking a look at our books and photographs.
It took us two days to set up the space, and we opened to the public Tuesday morning. ORBIS will be open all week from 10am - 10pm and showing until this Saturday 16th, so get your skates on to come and see some very talented natural history work!
I’d like to thank everyone for their hard work, it was so worth it to see everybody’s reactions tonight, and we hope to see more of you during the week :)
